Moving to Iceland
A citizen from the European Economic Area may stay and work in Iceland without a permit for up to three months from his arrival in the country, or stay for up to six months if he is seeking employment. If the individual wishes to stay longer in the country, he shall obtain a residence permit and can apply for one after he arrives in Iceland.

Citizens from outside the European Economic Area need to apply for a residence permit before arriving in Iceland. The application process can take up to 90 days.

Citizens of the Nordic countries Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden do not need a residence permit. Other exemptions include persons who have been born in Iceland, are married to an Icelandic national or have resided in Iceland for a certain time period.
