The Counsellor of the Ministry of Communications at the Icelandic Mission to the EU mainly focuses on participation in the EFTA working groups within the Ministry’s jurisdiction. These include general communication matters (aviation, traffic, harbour and maritime issues and all security and safety matters that concern  the communications field), telecommunications and postal matters. The representative disseminates information about EU legislation in the Ministry’s field which is under consideration to be included in the EEA Agreement, and reports back to the Ministry.  If the legislation is likely to be relevant it is necessary to assess its impact on Icelandic society. 

The representative of the Ministry of Communications therefore operates as a liaison between the Icelandic Government and the international institutions/states which are involved in the process of the EEA Agreement.
