Foreign Minister delivers her first policy speech to Parliament
Today, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Ms. Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladótir, delivered her first foreign policy speech to Althingi, the Parliament of Iceland. In her address, Ms. Gísladóttir discussed Iceland´s foreign policy challenges with a special focus on Iceland´s role in a globalized world.

Scholars in the field of humanities can now apply for the Snorri Sturluson Icelandic Fellowships
The Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies has started accepting applications for the Snorri Sturluson Icelandic Fellowships for 2008. Jónas Haraldsson, a new employee at the Permanent mission
On the 15th of August Mr Jónas Haraldsson took up the role of temporary officer at the permanent mission. Previously he was employed as a foreign news reporter for Vísir, Bylgjan and Stöð tvö. He also taught African politics and history at the University of Iceland.

Steingrímur Eyfjörð was Iceland's choice for the Venice Biennale this year. Mr Guðni Bragason, Minister and Chargé d´Affaires in Italy, addressed the opening of the exhibition of works by Mr Eyfjörð on behalf of Ms Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir, the Minister for Foreign affairs of Iceland. The Embassy in Rome cooperates with the Italian-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce
The Italian-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce and the Icelandic Embassy in Rome have enjoyed working together on several projects. Their latest venture is organizing a general meeting of the chamber this winter. The Business service of the foreign ministry partakes in the effort. The chairperson of the chamber is Gudjon Runarsson, the executive director of Icelandic Financial Services Association (IFSA; the Icelandic abbreviation is SFF).
