Visit from the Yomiuri Cultural Center in Yokohama

50 members of the Yomiuri Cultural Center in Yokohama visited the embassy on February 15th to listen to lecture about Iceland and taste Icelandic food.

26.2.2007

The visit started by welcoming words from the ambassador and his wife. The ambassador´s wife wore the Icelandic national costume, which was specially introduced on this occasion.  A staff member of the embassy gave a lecture about Iceland in Japanese.  After the lecture the guests got a chance to taste Icelandic food such as pancakes, skyr and of course fish.

Most of the guests liked the skyr and said they would buy it if it would be available in shops in Japan.

Skyr is a unique, traditional dish made from fresh Icelandic skim milk and looks like a thick yogurt.  The vikings are believed to have brought the knowledge of skyr-making with them, from Norway, when they settled the country more than 1.100 years ago.
