Foreign Direct Investment

The Central Bank of Iceland recently published figures for foreign direct investment abroad and foreign direct investment in Iceland. The picture below shows the trend for both categories for the past eleven years. The total amount of foreign direct investment flowing out of Iceland amounted last year to 439 billion IKR. This represents more that two folded increase from the previous year, 2004 and fifteen fold the amount in 2003. For comparison the amount was slightly lesser than the total amount of Danish foreign investment in 2005. What is noteworthy is the fact that the Danish economy is fifteen times larger than the Icelandic economy. By far the largest share of the direct investment out of Iceland was to Europe or close to 90% while the remaining 10% went to the US. Of individual countries Belgium and Luxemburg received 35,76%, Holland 23,93%, Guernsey 16,57% and the US 9,83%. For further information please see: www.sedlabanki.is
