About the Consulate

The Consulate General of Iceland was opened in 1940, being the first Icelandic diplomatic mission after the establishment of the Icelandic Foreign Service earlier that year.

On this website you will find information on how the Consulate works closely with business executives, media, and various other professionals interested in doing business with Iceland. You will also find information about the many products of Iceland available in the United States, - seafood from some of the coldest and purest waters on earth; fresh organic lamb; Iceland´s naturally clean water; and other products and services, including those from the member companies of Iceland Naturally.com.

Iceland is a special place with spectacular Northern Lights, glistening waterfalls, ancient geysers, purifying hot springs and spas, majestic mountains, and tempting cuisine - an impressive palette of outdoor adventure, sports, culture and food. It´s a place that gets down to business while ever mindful of the simple pleasures of life itself.

Iceland, with its population of just over 300,000, has become a favorite travel destination for hundreds of thousands of tourists from both sides of the Atlantic. Each year over 300,000 visitors come to the country from around the world. The demand from American travelers to visit this Ohio-sized island nation is so great, that over 1,000 flights per year fly between the United States and Iceland. Travelers are invited to learn more about the country here on the Web, and through our partners at the Iceland Tourist Board and Icelandair.

These pages will also allow you to learn about the many cultural attractions of our country, from its artists and world class musicians, to its many museums that celebrate our Viking heritage.

The Consulate also carries out regular consular functions, including assistance to Icelandic nationals and firms, distributing information about Iceland, and promoting Icelandic-American relations, in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

We are ready to work with you to explore the people, products and places of Iceland.
