New Films & Videos from Iceland
12 April 2007 in Scandinavian House
PD04: New Films & Videos from Iceland is a cultural sampler of the best experimental shorts, art films, and new music videos from contemporary Iceland. From the mysterious performance videos of the country’s latest crop of young artists to the recognizable warblings of bands like Sigur Rós and Múm, PD04 celebrates the colorfully off-kilter vision of this unique island nation.
Featuring the short film Family Reunion (Góðir gestir), written and directed by NY-based Icelandic filmmaker Ísold Uggadóttir. Filmed in Reykjavík and New York, this modern-day coming out story focuses on sexuality, secrets, love, family, and above all, fitting in. Katrín, a lesbian, returns from New York to her native Iceland for her grandfather’s 70th birthday and finds herself caught between two different and disconnected worlds. As she struggles with coming out, events reveal that other family members have secrets of their own.
Family Reunion was nominated for the Icelandic Academy Awards and was screened at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2007. For more information, visit www.no9productions.com/family-reunion/about.html.
