Albert Jónsson

Ambassador Albert Jónsson was born in Reykjavik on 28 December 1952. He is married to Ása Baldvinsdóttir. They have two children, Baldvin and Auður.
Albert Jónsson completed a B.A. in History and Political Science from the University of Iceland in 1978 and an M.Sc. in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science,University of London, in 1979. Albert Jónsson worked as a researcher for the Icelandic Commission on Security and International Affairs from 1980-1982. From 1984-1987 he was a radio journalist for the Icelandic Broadcasting Service and then a television journalist from 1987-1988. He became the Executive Director of the Icelandic Commission on Security and International Affairs in 1988 until 1991. From 1991 to 2004 Albert Jónsson served as the Foreign Policy Adviser to the Prime Minister and in 2004 he was appointed Ambassador and Special Adviser to the Minister for Foreign Affairs. In June 2006 until November 2006 he resumed his position as Foreign Policy Adviser to the Prime Minister. Albert Jónsson was also an external lecturer in International Politics at the Faculty of Political Science in University of Iceland from 1983-2006.
Ambassador Jónsson has authored books and articles on international security issues and on Icelandic foreign and security policy, including Iceland, NATO and the Keflavik Base (1989).
