About the Embassy

The Embassy´s main objectives are to serve Icelandic interests; to further bilateral links with the countries to which it is accredited; and to promote multi-lateral interests through such forums as the African Union and NEPAD. The Embassy is also responsible for providing information to individuals and companies that can serve to broaden commercial and cultural ties between Iceland and Africa.

The mission also participates in multilateral development cooperation.

The country offices of the Icelandic International Development Agency, ICEIDA, in Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia and Uganda have the status of embassies reporting on diplomatic issues to the Ambassador in Pretoria.

Consular assistance is available through the Embassy and its Honorary Consulates and through ICEIDA’s country offices.

The Embassy was officially inaugurated by H.E. Mrs. Valgerdur Sverrisdóttir, Iceland´s Minister for Foreign Affairs on 26 February 2007.
