Ambassador Kristmundsdóttir Reaffirms links with Mozambique
Ambassador Sigídur Dúna Kristmundsdóttir presented her credentials to HE President Armando Emilio Guebuza of Mozambique on 9 July.
Iceland’s diplomatic links with Africa go back to 1968, but it was not until 2001 that Iceland opened a mission on the continent. This was in Maputo, and since then bilateral relations have gone from strength to strength.
Noting this during the ceremony, Ambassador Kristmundsdóttir added that development cooperation was a key feature of Iceland’s overseas policy – with Africa receiving most of the aid. In this regard, experience gained in Mozambique over the years was passed to other African countries thus providing added value. It was to be hoped that Mozambican-Icelandic joint ventures would lead to increased trade and investment and that these benefits could also be shared more widely in Africa.
