Icelandic Photographic Exhibition opened in Johannesburg

10.6.2008

On Sunday 8 June 2008, H.E. the Ambassador of Iceland, Dr. Sigridur Duna Kristmundsdottir opened a Photographic Exhibition by the acclaimed Icelandic Photographer Mr. Pall Stefansson at the Gordart Gallery in Melville, Johannesburg. This is the first time that Iceland has sent an exhibition of Icelandic art to South Africa.

The exhibition is traveling worldwide as an assignment sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Iceland. The Embassy of Iceland in Pretoria brought the exhibition to South Africa from Belgium where it had been on display in connection with Cultural Events held in Brussels earlier this year.

Pall Stefansson’s own word about this exhibition are: “Why these pictures? To me they are creating a certain mood. Showing a land being formed. A land divers in light and colour, a new land not unlike the nation that lives here in the North just below the Arctic Circle. A faraway land closer than you think.”

The exhibition will be on display at the Gordart Gallery until 28 June 2008. The Gordart Gallery is in Melville, Johannesburg on 72 Third Avenue and is open Tuesday - Saturday from 10:30 until 18:00.
